THE WEATHER
Best Time to Visit Indonesia
Indonesia’s climate is tropical, warm, and humid most of the year, with just two main seasons: dry and rainy. Temperatures usually sit between 25–32 °C (77–90 °F), depending on the island.
Dry Season
April – October: This is the best time to visit most of Indonesia, especially islands like Sumba, Bali, and Lombok. Days are sunny, the air is less humid, and the sea is calm, making it perfect for diving, hiking volcanoes, or simply enjoying the beaches.
Wet Season
November – March: Rain is more common during these months, especially in Sumatra and western Indonesia, but showers are usually short and often come in the late afternoon or at night. Everything looks lush and green, prices are lower, and with fewer tourists, you’ll often have places to yourself. When I was in Sulawesi in November, it barely rained!

What month did I travel to Indonesia?
I explored Indonesia from August – early December, a period that falls within the dry season in many regions. These months are generally ideal for traveling, with plenty of sunshine, calmer seas, and easier access to remote islands. It’s also a time when cultural festivals and ceremonies bring extra vibrance to daily life. I loved adding Singapore to my Indonesia trip since it’s so close!
Culture lives in every dish and every tradition
Indonesian Food, Culture, and Traditions
Culture in every flavor
Food, Culture, and Traditions

Indonesian food is flavorful, aromatic, and different on every island. You’ll find nasi goreng almost everywhere, made with rice, eggs, vegetables, and fish or meat, with each region adding its own unique twist.
Spicy sambal and exotic fruits like rambutan and mangosteen (my favorite!) are also popular. Meals are often shared, and the rich mix of spices makes every dish unforgettable.

Indonesia’s culture is a blend of Indigenous traditions, Hindu and Buddhist heritage, and Islamic influences, making it highly diverse. From temple ceremonies in Bali to the call to prayer from mosques in Lombok, the diversity is endless. Wherever you go, hospitality and warmth make you feel instantly welcome.
With more than 300 ethnic groups, each region offers its own customs, festivals, clothing, music, and even food, which is why Indonesia feels so diverse and vibrant.

Tradition is woven into daily life, from colorful religious festivals to family gatherings. In Bali, offerings of flowers and fragrant smoke fill the streets, while in Sumba, rituals and ceremonies honor the ancestors, reflecting deep spiritual connections.
Across the islands, faith and community are at the heart of everything. Many of these traditions have been passed down for centuries, preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
